Atwood was born in 1939, in Ottawa, Ontario . Atwood can be seen as one of the best (female) novelist of our time. She doesn’t only write novels, she is very successful in poetry, short stories and criticism as well. For all these successes she received many awards which in total cover an amount of 33. Atwood has travelled a lot and lived at many places, which can be seen in her novels as well. In 1985 she published the Handmaid’s Tale in which her attitude towards feminism is well-reflected. Still today she is active in women’s rights issues and a member of Amnesty International.
